So, I saw this idea on my Aunt Gwen's blog and decided to steal it.:) With the wind howling and snow (yes, SNOW!) blowing outside and Christmas music playing inside as the background noise, here are some of the things I am thankful for this year:
A is for Apple: ok, ok, I had to do the typical teacher one.:) Actually, it's for apple cider, which I've probably only had twice in my life and have never really been a big fan of. However, Monday night I drank some that was delicious. I just might become a fan!:)
B is for Buble (as in Michael): His voice is amazing, and he just came on singing "Feliz Navidad."
C is for Car: I am thankful that I don't have one in Baku because figuring out where to park the thing or how to drive on the snow/slushy roads right now would be a nightmare.
D is for Dad: He's incredible, and I love him/Him.
E is for Electricity: The lights, heater, water heater, appliances, and internet are all running well. Yeah!
F is for Family and Friends: God has blessed me with an amazing family (including but not limited to: Dad, Mom, Daniel, Susanna, Stephen, Kendra, and Lillian) and group of friends (who are like family) filling my life with joy and challenge me to keep growing!
G is for the Grinch: Ok, so my class is singing/preforming "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" for our Winter Program. It's fun to see my kids' excitement about putting together costumes and learning the song.
H is for Hat: My ears are thankful for my amazingly cool black hat that I forgot to wear today but will definitely be wearing tomorrow.:)
I is for iPod: Listening to music while I walk/ride places is a gift.
J is for Jolly Ranchers: you might be surprised what 9-year-olds will do for one.:)
K is for Kids: I have 11 great kids in my class, and I look forward to spending each day I can with you helping and watching you grow and learning from you. I officially have the best job ever!
L is for Lillian: Officially the cutest little girl in the whole world, Lillian's smiling face and overall sweetness is a gift from the Giver of good things!:) I love you, cutie!
M is for Masters: I'm over halfway done with my second-to-last class! Can't wait to be done.:)
N is for Niece: see L! :)
O is for Open Doors: There have been some really neat conversations happening in my classroom lately.
P is for Pictures: Watching faces and places far away fill my screen make my heart happy.
Q is for Q-tips: ok, so it's all I could think of, but seriously, they are handy little things!:)
R is for Returning King: He's won; He will win; and He's coming back for me!
S is for Smiling: I'm thankful we were created with the ability to smile and laugh. Smiling and laughing (with my kids, friends, the girls who work at the neighborhood store, female strangers on the bus/metro - the guys can be a little creepy) makes my day.
T is for Turkey crafts: My kids have been working on these three-sided turkey crafts, and they are turning out quite well, if I do say so myself. All of their moaning over having to do them is turning into smiles of satisfaction as they are finishing.:)
U is for Unexpected kindness: When riding a crowded/packed bus, strangers who are sitting will often offer to hold your bags/packages while you stand. To have a complete stranger go out of the way to be kind is something I am thankful for about this culture.
V is for Very warm blanket: Do I need to explain this one?
W is for White Thanksgiving: I love snow! Who knew I'd get to enjoy it this early, and in Baku, no less!:)
X is for eXit: if you've ever played the sign-game, you know why this word is something to be thankful for.
Y is for You: "You have made known to me the path of life; You will fill me with joy in Your presence, with eternal pleasures at Your right hand."
Z is for aZeri: I have the best teacher in the world, and I get to learn this language and live in this country.:)
Ironically, after I finished the alphabet I kept thinking of other things I was thankful for and wanting to find a way to incorporate them. So, this is by no means an exhaustive list. Just in case you were wondering, I am blessed beyond measure.:) Happy Thanksgiving!
