Stargazing????

Stargazing? If you know anything about Baku, you're probably wondering what is up with the title of this blog. I mean, let's be real, you can't see many stars here. Now, I feel like I need to qualify that statement by saying that there are stars shining down on Baku, and I'm assuming that in other parts of Azerbaijan you really can see those stars. However, in a city of over 2 million people it's a little difficult to see stars at night.:)
So, if I don't "gaze at stars" here in the most traditional sense of the words, what do I gaze at? Well, 5 out of 7 days I gaze at kids! And what a sight they are.:) I started the year with 9 children, and, as of today, I am down to 7.:( It has been so interesting to get to know them. You will undoubtedly hear more about them in the days to come.
With gazing at my kids comes gazing at my classroom (not nearly as exciting as my kids, but I like it. That room is my home away from home.) The walk back and forth to school provides me with the opportunity to gaze at other interesting sites. Let me think. . . There's the stretch of little mechanic shops. If you find your car suddenly puttering to a stop, this would be the stretch of my walk for that to happen on. Then come some busy, slightly crazy streets to cross. There's the butcher shop (complete with dead animals "hanging out" inside). Then the restaurant, the building under construction, the muddy alley, and finally my buildings. Up the elevator (most days; the stairs take much longer) and into my house!: It's great to come back and gaze at the beautiful home my Father has given me.
This last thought brings me back to my original observation: why title a blog about life in Baku (and who  knows where else) "Stargazing in Baku." Well, you see I recently stumbled across a quote by David Nicholas that says, "God's promises are like the stars; the darker the night the brighter they shine." So, that is the purpose of this blog: to jot down the happenings of my life for me and others to see how brightly God's promises shine! Stargazing - here I come!:)
